Roses for Awake Living by Katie Davis, Author, "Awake Joy"

The Way of the Heart

When the human being is consciously fulfilled, blessings appear in every aspect of our lives. Full embodiment of the Heart is the precious gift that becomes the art of Awake Living. We live the natural way of the Heart in a profoundly human manner that is globally undivided. This unity is in cooperation with humanity, the living earth, its vital environment and in harmony with the welfare of its creatures.

The quality in which we live is not one of personal choice that is mentally selected as a right way based upon moral virtues, but rather the organic outcome of total surrender to the Heart. The spirit is consciously integrated as we contemplate our relationships, professions, investments, health, schools and politics. It is not that living becomes a spiritual practice, but rather our multi-diversity is appreciated as a symphony of love in action.

We have assimilated a balance in our daily lives that includes the spiritual in every encounter as it appears. We are virtually a free instrument of the Heart and selflessly serve Its way. Awake Living is conscious that we are being lived for the good of the whole.

Four Roses

The roses are limitless in this abundant Garden. Today, I offer you four; they are compassion, service, gratitude and unconditional love. Each has been chosen for its fragrance, brilliance and foremost for its power in turning the "mind's life" around, to the open way of the Heart.

The pink rose of true compassion is a gift of basic goodness to alleviate the suffering of others. Compassion flows from the emptiness and its cultivation purifies the mind. You allow your heart to be touched and are deeply empathetic with human conditions, while compassion stirs you to right action. Compassion is the work of goodwill and fosters gentle kindness. You are the whole and embrace the creatures of the earth and protect the natural beauty of nature.

This compassion includes a feeling of the joy that appears in others' lives with equal warmth and gratitude. You care for life for what life is and for who you are.

The white rose is a gift of purity and innocence in the silence of serving others, the earth and its creatures. It is silent in that the service is selfless and humble, free of personal interest or concern for outcome. With no motive in service, the quality is far beyond the mind and its ideas.

The fuchsia rose is one of gratitude for the life that appears each moment. You express gratitude to others, the greater life for its abundance, the earth for its trees, the sea for its gifts, other living creatures and insects for their service to life and even the weeds that you pull as you smell the earth to grow your rose garden. In the end, gratitude just overflows until a grateful Heart is all there is.

The red rose of unconditional love is the greatest, since virtually every soft petal contains all of the others and indeed, the entire Garden of Awake Living. This affectionate gift appreciates life's truest passion for loving with patience, humility, forgiveness and emotional maturity. You are kind and in harmony with living, instead of throwing life around.

We have differences in the human mind and have differing perspectives, however at Heart, we are one life in essence. Awake Living is not attached to individual perspectives as though they were our personal identity. We are open to the whole, so that human diversity is respected with tolerance or perhaps even fascination.

This receptivity emulates a love that offers a broader reality for the family, spirituality, society, workplace, environment, science and the arts. In this manner, we live in cooperation and acceptance with mutual appreciation and enthusiasm.

Since we are love, we are not searching where to get it. Instead, we are watchful for every opportunity to overflow the greatest gift of the Heart.

Only This Love by Katie Davis, Author, Awake Joy

All love is one Love and when we fall in love with one another, it is said that we are experiencing the Divine. Rumi, a thirteenth century Sufi poet, defines love as a mystical moment, when two spiritually connected individuals meet. We call it love at first sight. In this meeting of eyes, Rumi romantically writes, we not only experience the union of two loving souls, but also the Love that is the crux of the universe.

Whether ethereal or everyday love, such as mother for child, when this cherished moment appears, we often have the misperception that someone or some other thing caused this rising in Love. In truth, we lose ourselves. This disappearance creates a crevice through which radiant love shines. There is only This Love and it is ever-present.

Love requires no other. Kirtana, a lovely songwriter and guitarist, sings, “Beloved, I have waited throughout all time…to welcome you…into these arms of mine.” Free of any other, in an effortless, spontaneous instant, Kirtana dissolved, the present moment disappeared, and only Beloved remained.

Beloved is the sacred substratum of our existence, which is free of lovers all together. It does not reside within the confines of “throughout all time.” It is discovered in the twinkling of an eye of no time. This Self-discovery allows unconditional love to emerge into our lives, our relationships and into the world.

As time travelers, we are identified with being a lover who loves someone else. As long as this subject-object relationship remains, true love cannot thrive. We expect and demand this or that to satisfy our self-created sense of lack. This lack is the ego’s belief in individuality as identity and its separation. It manifests in this world as the never-ending search for personal love, gratification and acceptance.

The false sense of “me” hopelessly pretends to separate from Totality and then expects someone else to fill the resulting pain gap. It fears the loss of a lover; it feels jealous, competes and needs. It voices its love for the Divine and faithfully expresses deep longing. Yet, it stubbornly insists upon maintaining its sense of separation and of course, the result is suffering. Nonsensically, it then blames someone else for the pain. It is the divided one, who is longing and searching, that sustains our estrangement.

Love is not personal. It cannot be gained through any other. Love cannot be given to you, nor can it be threatened or taken away. It is essentially who you are. When you are seeking a lover, you are actually searching for love. You are overlooking that you are what you are seeking, which is why it cannot be found.

Before you continue this search, my invitation is to discover that you are love’s conscious fulfillment. In this discovery, you then have the opportunity to meet romantic love in wholeness. You are free of the pre-existing condition and pain gap. You no longer need to complete yourself.

If you are already in a problematic relationship, such as personal relationships can only be, as true lovers, you can disappear together. Free of “you” and “me,” we intimately rise above the push and pull of personal relationship and preciously rise as the Pure Love that we genuinely are.

In its purity and wholeness, Love is synonymous with Self-realization. It is the realized maturity of the human Being. Then, romantic love does not need to bloom. When the perfect lover appears, the Rose already is.

The Totality of this Moment by Katie Davis - Katie Davis Blog: AwakebyKatie

As the Totality, we are the formless NOW ... with the power of consciousness appearing as a universe. This enchanting moment is not appearing in the past as some bygone memory and the future is plainly not here, other than the limited mind might imagine it.

Let's take a complete look at this moment. The mind probably judges and dismisses it as ordinary. But you are not the divided mind, you are the Totality. Both the body and the divided mind can be adorable; but they are presently limited due to false perceptions.

When we begin desiring something future, we begin imagining, perhaps visualizing, affirming and creating, only a limited possibility. It is limited, since it is being imagined by a conditioned doer that believes that it is a separate and limited body. That doer and its desires are all based on past experience. What we desire and dislike are the conditioned outcomes of how we felt during a past situation.

When we begin spiritual awakening, we begin sensing it as a personal awakening. We begin this profound inward journey through the inner body. We see someone who is awake and another who is not. We call this one enlightened, but that one not. At some point, it is realized what has forevermore been realized and awake ... and there is no one here.

There is no doer. This does not mean that we sit doing nothing. It merely means that "you" are not doing it. It is all happening by itself through the unlimited intelligence and the power of consciousness, with such dynamic simplicity.

Some who are reading this might say, "This is not for me. This is just giving up too much!" Well, this is hardly a diminishment. All that is lost is a self that never was ... and we realize the awe of an entire universe to play in.

It is shocking that we could have ever missed this and imagine that through some massive reduction of an infinite and unfathomable true Self, whose power is the appearance of the universe, and believe ourselves to be a tiny finite body that is somehow alienated from Totality (impossible). That is like trying to pour all of the worlds oceans into a tiny espresso cup. Then as this tiny cup and its cupful of attention or knowledge, we are too busy creating, or otherwise distracted, to realize fully and completely what we genuinely are.

For most, the inward journey may have taken several years. Upon Self-realization, a profound integration begins blossoming. Pure "I" is permanent and never again tries to separate. Meanwhile, the power of consciousness is opening and opening to the totality of experience. Since the mirror is now illuminated, it is a perfect, still reflector of unconditional love and peace of the divinity.

So, the invitation is to be completely the Totality of this moment. The unfathomable formlessness ... and planets in space orbiting and spinning, the ebb and flow of the tides, the sun rising, a flower blooming in sunlight, the whales birthing and the beautiful physical body that you once called "yours." Yes, there is destruction in this moment, tiny cells dying, stars colliding ... the dream falling apart as it does each and every night when you go to bed ... and it is simultaneously total renewal.

The living Truth is animating all form and experience. One could say, Life is living. This moment is not only magnificent ... but it is virtually all there is and it is the quality of consciousness this very moment that is the world.

The New Dawn is here ...

Only the Self is Big LOVE ~ Katie Davis, Author, Awake Joy

The unconditional love that you are is beyond relative love. The dreaming "I" that we used to believe was limited to the body is just incapable of genuine love and this will always be so.

Dreaming "I" (ego) is a mental idea; only a word that is expressed in time. When you mis-identify with the word as your identity, you are making an object out of yourself. The true Self and dreaming "I." There simply are not two. Write the word "I" down on a piece of paper. Then look at it. Are you that word? Or is there something deeper here?

For a moment, just say the word "I." Yes, right now. Are you aware of the thought? How deep can a mere thought be? You are not the "I" that you are presently equating to your body. You are the Awareness of the word "I." You are the Awareness of the body. That Awareness is not personal.

We are not referring here to eyesight. It is just beyond eyesight. Are you aware of the eye? Are you aware of seeing? For enlightenment, the only essential question is WHO is aware? If it is not "me" then who is aware?

Close you eyes for a moment. Are you still aware?

The dreaming "I" that is the body exists only within the mental realm and its time. Since it is in time, it is then subject to duality; the law of the opposites. This means that when you experience relative love, it can only remain "in love" for a certain duration.

Time is always in movement. Relative love is unstable and will inevitably cycle to hate. Hate is equally unstable. Because it is traveling in time, it will inevitably cycle back to relative love.

There is a continuum between relative love/hate. The less we hate, the more we feel loving. The less loving we feel, the more likely feelings of hate will arise. Love/hate are polar opposites that require on another. The cycling requires time.

As the ego, we then thank people, because we feel loving and then blame them whenever we feel hate. Not so intelligent in either case. It is "your" responsibility. Where are you looking from? The Heart or "I?"

We have all been in relationships and everything is going along just fine and suddenly the pain body rears its heads within either one person or the other. Generally, the other ego will take that bait; rear its pain body also to defend itself. Instead of a loving relationship, we now have a fighting, hateful and cruel relationship.

If you watch it in action, the ego actually becomes hatred. Observe the face of your partner. Isn't true that they look like hate? Sometime, while you are fighting, look at your own face in a mirror. You will surely notice that hate has taken over the body.

Please listen. The ego is incapable of being free of the love/hate cycling. So we do not need to try to perfect the dreaming "I" so that it is unconditionally loving. We do not need to make a false self a better false self. We do not need to feel guilty about the cycling. It is a given as long as you are mis-identified with the mental word "I" and its time.

The only resolution is timelessness. Free of time, we are free of cycling. Timelessness is being AWARE of the present moment and also realizing that you are the Pure Awareness. That Pure Awareness is timeless and eternal. It is the formless NOW within which your body and world of form are appearing. You are the formless NOW and not the body appearance.

The nature of the true Self is unconditional love. You ARE that unconditional love. It is not something that the ego can attain. The dreaming "I" is a word, remember? Is a word capable of unconditional love?

You already are this unconditional love. It is ever present just beneath (or we could say beyond) the dreaming "I," its time, its concepts and all of its problematic, compulsive and psychological thinking.

Unconditional love is formless and "arises" within the body from the divine dimension within you. Rather, it IS you.

When we realize Pure Awareness (Self-realization), we also realize that we are the unconditional love that never, ever wavers. That realization is then also the transformation of the world. How different would "your" life be and how different would the world be, if humanity was living as unconditional love?

Only the Self is LOVE. It is everywhere "you" are. Are you noticing this?

In attention to being, you stand free of time. In attendance, being (or we could say presence) will seem to grow stronger. This is not ultimately true. Beingness is already all powerful and omnipotent. It is just that while we are consciously being, the mind is still and thinking no longer obscures the Pure Beingness.

Just try it for one day and see. Can you consciously BE during all that is being done? This is beautiful movement meditation. You will notice how vibrantly alive you feel or eventually conscious being is just normal and effortlessly so.

In relationship with your mate, it takes "two" to fight. Do not try to change them. Just remain true to who you are. We then can offer true compassion. It is simple to see that they have only been taken over by time. Does it make sense to fight time when time is a delusion. Instead, we are asked to remain open and free, while the pain body loses its pseudo power.
